One of the very first things that ran through my mind when I read the theme for this week was a little box of POINTED objects I keep hidden in my closet. It has been there for two years waiting for the perfect opportunity...and this week just happened to be it.
As a young girl, I fondly remember the amazing feeling each August when my mom would purchase a new box of crayons for my back to school supplies. In my opinion, there was nothing more exciting than opening that little box and seeing all the perfectly POINTED crayons looking back at me.
For the two weeks or so leading up to the first day of school, I would open up that little box, and admire the beautiful POINTS.
I wouldn't dare try to use them though. That honor was saved for the very first project of the new school year.
When that day came, I would be giddy with excitement as carefully tested each color out. It was that day....and only that day that the thrill of the new crayons would be released....and each and everyday after was just plain......boring. Once the perfect POINTS were used....they were once again, like all the boxes before it....just crayons.
It was with great joy I opened this special box of crayons. Throughout my childhood, I only ever once had a box of 64 crayons. I cherished the variety it offered. As I set about photographing these little beauties, Sugar Bear wanted to run for the paper. I wish I could say I let her break these babies in....but I didn't. I wasn't ready.......ready for them to be boring. Their day will come.....and it will be grand.
Thank you for visiting my blog this week. I really appreciate it. I hope to get a chance to visit lots of pointed photos this weekend, but being that it is a holiday, it might be difficult. Have a great weekend.
31 Live It or Love It:
I love a new box of crayons. Every summer when back to school shopping begins I get so excited for all the school supplies, and I especially stock up on crayons, always hoping to have enough to last until next year. (Usually boxes of 24, although I do often buy a box of 64 or 96 just for me)
what a very nice choice for the theme
I love how they look like like when they're brand new :)
But, once they're used. Especially when used roughly by my 2 kids..they're nightmare to me :P
Have a good Independence Day weekend!!
Wow what stunning photos. It shows that any subject can be magical. Happy weekend

There was nothing better than a brand new box of crayons. You captured their excitment perfectly. I really loved these photos!
Love these pictures. There is nothing more wonderful as a kid than a brand new box of crayons or pencils all pointy and ready to use!
Great photo presentation! True, pointed crayons are the best to look at during school's first day, you know, when we were kids we shrapen them just like pencils to keep them pointed! =D
Fabulous post and fabulous shots! Really excellent. I don't remember getting that excited over my crayons... now I feel like I missed something... more grand!
Very well done :-)

Have fantastic weekend =)
You know, I think most of us can relate
What a clever choice for the week, and what stunning shots!
I can relate too, but I think it's a girl thing... the new stationery excitement.
There's something about pictures of crayons that capture me...and these are really good ones! Bravo!
Your pictures make me want to run out and buy a box of 64 crayons just to have them sitting here unused! :)
I love that it's the simplest of things that bring such pleasure! These are great, Corey! I agree, there's just something special about brand-new, unused crayons...
crayola brand are not for coloring with. they are for looking at, blogging about, and perhaps making a little poem with their names.
but NOT coloring with. that ruins 'em.
personally, i like to bath in a pool of them.
no i don't. it's just late and i have passed into silliness of the late-night variety.
Totally awesome, Corey! I often find myself taking pics of the kids' crayons.. :D
Ah, happiness is a brand new box of crayons! Great shots Corey -- I have a fondness for the little pack rainbow colors when they are at their sharpest too :)
wow nice pics of crayons! ;-)
A brilliant choice for the word “POINTED” Corey! And these are very very very beautiful shots both technically and esthetically!
I have a present for you on my blog, please visit.

Nothing like a fresh box of crayons. I love the shots you took. I still like new boxes of crayons and even though my daughter is grown up and off to law school, I color on my own sometimes.
I love a new box of crayons. Even to this day! Is that the one with the built in sharpener?
Those are amazing shots....so nice and pointy.
Those are brilliant shots and they so remind me of the joy of brand new crayons too. Nothing like it. I loved buying them for my children.
Great post. I can smell the wax of the crayon from those photos. Well done.
Catching up sweetie. Those are gorgeous shots and I get what you mean about the brand new perfect crayons. Sighhh. They don't stay like that for long do they. :(
Hi. I hope you don't mind that I'm catching up with some of your older posts.
Lovely shots! We have a lot of crayons at home. My son loves coloring and sometimes I join him. :)
