Photo Hunters~Wide

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Last week, at my company Winter Celebration, I spent some time with one of our bus drivers. I rarely get the joy of visiting with him, as we work in different buildings. Whenever we are together, there is really only ONE topic of conversation....PHOTOGRAPHY! He is a fabulous photographer, and is always full of interesting ideas. This last conversation didn't disappoint. I hurried home and tried a fun little technique.

Standing in front of my lit Christmas tree, I set my shutter speed to somewhere over 3 seconds. I aimed my zoom lens at the tree with the zoom set to a WIDE angle. I then pressed the shutter and proceeded to zoom in on the tree throughout the long shutter release.

Here is my results:

It was really hard to hold the camera steady while zooming, but certainly fun to try.  Next time, I may try attaching the camera to my tripod to help with the shake.  I'm not certain it will help because I'll still need to manual zoom from WIDE to narrow.

All in all it was a fun little project, and I look forward to trying it on other things.

Have a great weekend!  I look forward to seeing other WIDE photos.

Oh that is very clever! I still need to try that, but I think a tripod would have made a massive difference.

Wow, that is so darn cool! I've seen this technique before, but never tried it. Since I usually use my 50mm, I don't generally even have the option to zoom. ;o)

Cool effects! Looks like fireworks. Happy hunting. I used "wide" angle as well.

What a clever technique -- I never even thought of zooming in *while* the photo is being taken!
