Photo Story Friday~ Fourth Of July Princess

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Last summer, I tried my hand at making a tutu or two. tee hee... My favorite by FAR was the Fourth of July tutu I made for the Sugar. The feeling was mutual. Sugar Bear quickly dubbed the tutu her, "Princess Dress", and happily trounced around in it the evening of July 4th. I had BIG ideas of what the photos might look like, and even bigger ideas of the PERFECT portrait, but alas....it wasn't meant to be.

As you can see....Sugar Bear tends to be a bit of a "ham sandwich!" She is a goofy young lady with lots and lots of comical expressions. She is very expressive. This photo cracks me up because it is soooooooooooooooooo Sugar Bear. Even though it isn't portrait worthy.....it is a favorite of mine, as it depicts her so well. You can go HERE to see some of the other photos I took that evening.

The reason I chose this photo to share today has everything to do with my continued search for the PERFECT portrait. Two days ago, I grabbed the tutu, a tank top, and of course Sugar Bear, and set out on a photo shoot. Again....I had big plans...and big ideas......you'll just have to check back next week to see if we were successful....or NOT.

Have a great weekend!

Oh and I am entering this in a contest over at Are We There Yet Mom! I'll be letting you know when the voting starts!

Sorry for double posting, whoops!

How cute! I think that even though she isn't acting "portrait worthy", she is acting like herself which actually has so much more meaning! You will look back on these pictures and say - "yes, that is exactly how you were at that age.". MUCH better than a posed picture! Right?

Awesome job on that tutu! I have to laugh, because that's a face Bridget makes, too. I have a feeling they would get along quite nicely. :-)

You know I love it - Sugar Bear, the tutu, the picture! Really, would any "perfect" portrait be better than this one, full of her personality?? As for the latest photoshoot, I'm betting you got some incredible ones but still aren't satisfied. Am I right??

that is adorable!

Is that the tutu you cut tulle into strips and knot on a waistband?? We have made many of those.

I love photos like this one that show off their personality so well much better than the 'formal' or 'perfect' ones! She is such a cute, goofy little thing - and absolutely adorable, especially in her July 4th finery. You did an awesome job on that tutu - I can't wait to see what the recent photo shoot turned out! :)

I love, love, LOVE that look on her face! Priceless! Absolutely priceless!

Second of all, if my daughter knew that other mommies could make tutu's she would be all over me to make her one. Thankfully, I have Wal-mart to fall back on!

What wasn't successful?! That is Sugar Bear hamming it up in all of her glory! It tells the truth of the moment and where she was in her development! Don't be so hard on yourself, it's a great portrait!

You can tell she had a blast! What a cutie.

Is it bad that the look on her face TOTALLY reminds me of you? LOL, in a really great, oh yea she's Corey's daughter kind of way. So cute, I love that tutu. Can't wait to see if you got your shot.

she is quite the goof!

Hilarious photo. SOOOOO cute. And TOTALLY PORTRAIT WORTHY. I think you need to stop worrying about capturing that perfect "portrait" of Sugar and realize that you are capturing the essence of Sugar instead. I think the photos you consider "duds" are far more representative of her personality and her childhood than any perfect portrait you might ever capture. Embrace it and stop being so hard on yourself, eh!? Peace. xoxo

Oh WOW - you made that? Oh wow. You MUST sell those on Etsy or something Corey - those are fantastic! And I LOVE LOVE that smirk she's sporting - talk about perfection.

Corey I checked out the other photos and you know? This kid is just priceless. What character. It just shines through. I can almost hear her indignation, giggles, squeals, sense her curiosity...

That, although not "portrait worthy" is one of the best child shots I have seen. It is Sugar.
And I don't even know her.

That may actually be my fav. photo I have seen on this blog - and considering the quality of photos on this blog, that is saying something.

Perfect.

Okay, The. Best. Shot!! I think Cecily summed it up perfectly for me!! I am still laughing - I love it so much.

what a great expression! (you hadn't just farted, right?)

when queen of hearts was this age, i did a series of shots for my mom's birthday. it was "expressions". nine shots of nine facial expressions. it was fantastic. the frame i got was one from macy's where there were nine sections you could slide around like that number puzzle (only bigger). wait, that means there were probably only eight. okay whatever. i did it.

I think you captured the perfect picture, especially if you were able to get a "classic" sugarbear expression! How fun that you can make princess tutu dresses!!!
