Photo Hunters~Practical

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

*** WARNING*** If Breastfeeding offends you please don't proceed any further. Thank you, for coming by my blog, but you might want to skip by me this week. See you next week. Happy Hunting!

Anyhow, why is it that when I struggle with the Photo Hunters theme for the week, I feel the need to read the definition? It really hasn't helped me yet, but I still try it in hopes that the bell will ring, the light bulb will illuminate above my head, and I'll suddenly just KNOW what picture to post. Alas.....no such luck.

prac·ti·cal (prkt-kl)
adj.
1. Of, relating to, governed by, or acquired through practice or action, rather than theory, speculation, or ideals: gained practical experience of sailing as a deck hand.
2. Manifested in or involving practice: practical applications of calculus.
3. Actually engaged in a specified occupation or a certain kind of work; practicing.
4. Capable of being used or put into effect; useful: practical knowledge of Japanese. See Usage Note at practicable.
5. Intended to serve a purpose without elaboration: practical low-heeled shoes.
6. Concerned with the production or operation of something useful: Woodworking is a practical art.
7. Level-headed, efficient, and unspeculative.
8. Being actually so in almost every respect; virtual: a practical disaster.

I have read these over and over and over, and the only one that sticks out to me is #5. I wrestled with posting this picture for quite sometime, for fear of offending someone, but that right there is the main reason I NEED to post this picture.

I am very much an advocate for breastfeeding, and it saddens me how much our society has turned feeding a child from the breast into something that needs to be hidden... Something that needs to be only done at HOME, and certainly not in front of strangers.....or relatives...or anyone else for that matter. Why should we feel ashamed of something so natural?

In my opinion, breastfeeding is the most PRACTICAL use of the breast there is. In fact, I am pretty sure THAT is what breasts are actually made for.

If you are still with me....Thanks! Have a great weekend. See you next week!

Who is that? I don't recognize those boobs? I think this is the second most beautiful picture in the world that can be taken of a mother and a child!

What a beautiful and tasteful photograph. If this was an animal suckling on it's mother people would find it cute so why not a mother and her baby. A great take on this theme.

I think your photo is awesome. I agree that nursing babies is about as practical as it gets. It's a shame people have to fight for the right to do it sometimes!

Hurray for you! People just need to get over themselves. I was in Applebee's the other day and a woman was breastfeeding with a blanket draped over the 'offending' part... I wanted to tell her to just take it off and be proud!

Breastfeeding is a great thing to advocate for. My daughter was a preemie. Although she never got the nursing thing down due to her NICU stay, lack of endurance, and then my return to work, she still got breastmilk exclusively due to my 14 months of pumping. I feel that it's definitely one of the things that has helped her do so well despite her very small start. I'm sad to have missed out on actual nursing, but hopefully I'll get that with the next one if we're so blessed.

WHOA! This is really very practical. Never thought that anyone would actually post this (= Happy day to you (=

We all created things in life for practicality. Who knows that the most practical thing is a part of the body.

Nice take for the theme.

Every photo hunt I visit today so far has a different shot for "practical" all of them very good.

I breast fed my 2 boys until they were a year old.

I also entered in Karen fall photo contest and hopeful I'll get a chance to look at them.

Why was it so hard this week? It should have been easy but perhaps there was too much choice. Certainly practical a lovely photo to boot.
Thanks for visiting Corey.

It's beautiful shot and I love it. For sure it's the best natural and practical thing to do as a mother. I have nursed my daughter 2 years ago and if given another chance to have another baby I would do it again.

Whirlwind said...

It's a great photo. There was a big photo-video going around last week portraying that same message.

That is indeed practical. I'm a former breastfeeder myself---17 and 14 months with my two kids. But I guess because I am even modest about how low cut my necklines are on my shirts, I certainly was uncomfortable with showing too much in public. But I'm all for it. I was proud of myself when I succeeded in feeding in public!

Trinity said...

practical, nutritious and that's the best mom can give to her children!

great shot, Corey!

mamashine said...

So sweet. I don't think I have a single picture of me with either of my kids. Didn't occur to me to take any.

Deb said...

Oh yes, still with you and loving how perfectly this photo fits with the theme of 'practical'! And such a beautiful photo too... :)

Judith said...

I do not understand why it is such an issue in the USA, in Holland you just nurse where ever you are, no one would dream of saying anything. In fact trying to interfere with a woman nursing is a criminal offense, endangering the welfare of a child or something like that. I have even nursed in the basilica here in Maastricht in front of the Bishop !
