A few weekends ago, Hubby and I took Sugar Bear to a wonderful pumpkin patch. It is located on a privately owned farm, but they offer it up as a fundraiser for a local summer camp for children with cancer. 100% of the proceeds go to the camp. We were thrilled to not only have the opportunity to share a special time with Sugar, but to contribute to such a worthy cause.

No spring nor summer beauty hath such grace
As I have seen in one autumnal face.
~John Donne
There were so many fun activities. Of these, Sugar Bear and I very much enjoyed the authentic train ride. You literally couldn't wipe the smile off of my girl's face. It was a real treat to experience this joy with her. LIFE.IS.GOOD!
“Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.” ~William Cullen Bryant
The train, however, came in second to the FABULOUS Cinderella style Pumpkin Carriage. It was pulled by a John Deere tractor and was loads of fun. Sugar graced the seat of this carriage TWICE.
“We must give more in order to get more. It is the generous giving of ourselves that produces the generous harvest.” ~Orison Swett Marden
Amongst several carnival type booths, and a real pumpkin patch, there was the delightful lollipop forest. Oh my...Sugar bear was very intrigued with trees that actually grew candy. "WOW, Mama! We need one of these at our house!"
“You must give to get, You must sow the seed, before you can reap the harvest.”
A HUGE hit of the day, was a a GIANT Jump for Fun that was in the shape of a pumpkin. It took some serious negotiations to get my girl out of that thing before midnight.
“If you tickle the earth with a hoe she laughs with a harvest” ~Douglas Jerrold
After tons of fun, Sugar was more than satisfied with her very first Frito Pie. I mean seriously, who wouldn't love Frito chips smothered in chili and cheese? The girl has taste, and she wouldn't share. sigh....
“The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest.” ~William Blake
On a whole, I was not happy with my photo opportunities that day. It was too crowded to step back and get a decent angle (I had the wrong lens on). The sun was harsh, and the most annoying thing...strangers were always talking to her, and Sugar isn't a big fan of strangers, so she always had a serious look on her face. When the camera was down, and we were interacting...she was ALL smiles. So despite this last photo looking like she was miserable...she really did have a great time. Well...maybe the hay was poking her through the tights alittle, but Mama had to get aleast one posed shot right?
“With every deed you are sowing a seed, though the harvest you may not see.” ~Ella Wheeler Wilcox
“Remember to be gentle with yourself and others. We are all children of chance and none can say why some fields will blossom while others lay brown beneath the August sun. Care for those around you. Look past your differences. Their dreams are no less than yours, their choices no more easily made. And give, give in any way you can, of whatever you posses. To give is to love. To withhold is to wither. Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace.” ~Kent Nerburn
Oh and yes....I did make her dress! :)

What an awesome experience, and the dress is beautiful!!
That sounds like the coolest pumpkin patch ever! As usual the pictures really add to the story. Sugar Bear will just love having this photo journal to look back at some day.
And a beautiful dress it is, too! :) What a fun outing for your family! That Frito pie sounds yummy!
It's beautiful! And so smart with the rainboots. Bean loves her boots, too. If there's a hint of a cloud in sight, the boots are ON! Hope you are feeling less tired today.
Ok you have to let me know where that patch is... it looks so cool. I love little Sugars dress, your so stinkin talented. Good thing you had a girl to make all those fun dresses for.
I think I'll steal this quote from your post. “Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.” ~William Cullen Bryant
For purely selfish reasons. LOL
Could a day get any better for a little girl ? My girls would love that place.
I love your blog, and every time I read it, I am reminded of the book Snow Bears by Martin Waddell. It is a sweet book and you have a sweet blog.
Wow - isn't it incredible how the (seemingly) simplest joys wind up being the most important? Thank you for sharing the photos, the quotes, and your observations. What a delightful post.
I love Sugar's boots, but I love her dress even more. Totally cute! Great job!
She is such a serious looking Sugar in most of those, but I hardly noticed until you mentioned it - I was so busy looking at that adorable dress and cute boots... I'm glad she was having a fun day! I love the quotes, they fit so well.
Sugar Bear is so blessed by these experiences and by the understanding that other people are always so important ....

Thank you all for the lovely comments. :)
And bradley....why yes...there is a limit. I can't sing, nor ballroom dance, nor bake anything that requires Yeast. those things make me sad. sigh...
for the record, I bought the denim jumper and added all the fabric ruffle and apliques. so I didn't really make it...but I could...if I wanted to. :)
She's such a cutie! LOVE the boots!
