This past July, I signed Sugar Bear up for private swimming lessons. My thinking lay in the fact that she is fairly adventurous, and not too intimidated by water. I wanted to be sure that she had one-on-one attention, to keep her safe. She was super excited, yet I worried she might not crawl out of her shy shell to interact with the instructor. Sugar may not look like it....but it takes her awhile to warm up.
Here we are the first day....waiting for our turn. Sometimes Mama needs to remember that it isn't always best to arrive early.
The waiting can just depress the heck out of an over eager little honey.
Finally....it was her turn. She was a bit apprehensive of Miss S, and the cool water.
As soon as she was in...she almost thought about coming out.
But Miss S sweet talked her into hanging out a bit. Sugar is NOT afraid of water....she just didn't know Miss S, and felt out of place.
Much to my dismay, one of the first things Miss S wanted to do was work on Sugar's tolerance for water in her face. sigh......Sugar didn't enjoy it...
And it really did nothing for their buddng relationship.
Sugar often shot Miss S the, "why are you doing that to me?" look, but had yet to say a word.
Miss S did all the talking....and Sugar Bear listened and clung to the side of the pool. She could barely touch the bottom if she got on her tippy toes, so she just prefered to cling to the side.
FINALLY, Miss S broke out the fish. What three year old isn't won over by a water spitting fish?
I am fairly certain it was then that Sugar decided Miss S was a-okay!
Stay tuned next week to see if this little guppy ever let go of the side.

16 Live It or Love It:
Oh, I love seeing these. I can't wait to see the next installment. I thought hard about lessons for The Bean this past summer, ultimately I decided to wait just a little longer. I felt like she needed a little more maturity under her belt. I love Sugar's smile after the spitting fish! The Bean would have loved that as well.
Look at that little girl go! I'm so jealous that you can get great photos at swimming lessons - ours are horribly grainy and dim, due to the low light in there, the reflection of the water, and my inability to know how to use my camera to possibly take any decent kind of photo. Sigh.
Can't wait to see how Miss Sugar does! :)
I remember them days when my baby wouldn't let go of me in the water. I tried to hold him this summer but he thinks I am crazy. What I would give to go back when he was little.
Hee hee, hope she lets go soon!
Looks like she enjoyed it in the end.
so cute! I can't wait to find out if she ever let go! I've been going to swim lessons w/ Squidge since she was 9 months old. We have soo much fun and she just loves!
I really loved these pics... I felt as if I was going through it with her! Great job, Corey!
Beautiful photos! What a wonderful moment you've captured!! I can't wait to get Emma in some swimming lessons. Like Sugar, she shows no fear around water and just wants to dive right in to creeks and ponds.
The "waiting" pictures are absolutely priceless!
These pictures are great Corey. Her little expresions tell the story. Bugs swimming lessons this year were a disaster. I sure hope Sugars turned out good!
Yeah for the fish! :)
I think the instructor was trying all the tactics to see what would work best and find out more about her personality. It's hard, especially if the instructor, who looks like a college student, doesn't have any kids.
But I'm sure she'll like the kick board when that comes out too. :)
Oh she did so well Cor. Miss M has lessons once a week but was so nervous her first time. Sugar should be very proud of herself.
i have big money on "yes she did"
that little gal is amazing. she'll be swimmin' in no time flat.
such trendy glasses miss s has for 'in the pool'......
so cute!
Love the pictures of her hanging out waiting for her turn!
missy
I'm sorry I've been so absent lately...this past week has been crazy! But I love seeing your little fishy, and I'm betting YES she did let go! Yay for spitting fishes saving the day.
Her expression in the second photo KILLS me!
OMG Corey...that was so fun! Miss Peach is doing the same thing...what little fish they are at this age. Let go of the side Sugar Bear, it's so fun!
Hiya Corey! Didya think I'd abandoned you? ;) This post was just adorable times ten! I just love the change in Sugar's expression once the fishy came out -- LOL!
