Extreme Makeover for Egg-Bert

May1008_0010ew

Last week....or was it two weeks ago????.....I introduced Egg-bert and Ernie. Sugar Bear was thrilled to have a successful Wondertime activity. Egg-bert and Ernie, being a tad fragile spent their days on our Kitchen window sill. The enjoyed observing my kitchenly duties, and often offered to help with the dishes. I do think it was Ernie's obsession with the bath tub and rubber ducky that fed his desire to pitch in. I lovingly declined all offers, as I was worried about getting dirt in the sink, so they were contented to just watch. About once a day, they would take turns braving the Sugar, while I let her hold them, and discuss their hair growth.

After several weeks, Sugar Bear noticed that their hair was getting a bit....ummmmm TALL, and wondered if we could maybe give them a bit of a trim. EGG-cellent idea!

May1008_0013ew

Egg-bert volunteered to go first. What a trooper. I am, however, not entirely sure he understood that SUGAR BEAR would be doing the cutting. You just have to admire his bravery. I mean look at that smile...you'd never know he was fearing for his delicate little life, would you?

Egg-bert, and I were please with the new style. What do you think? Is it Egg-galant?

May1008_0015ew

Obviously Sugar Bear did NOT agree, as suddenly, and completely without Egg-bert's approval, the scissors swifly came in and readied for a drastic snip.

May1008_0017ew

Oh my heavens....I am not Egg-agerating. If Egg-bert had been able......there would a have been shrieks of horror.

May1008_0018ew

While both Egg-bert and I picked our jaw off the floor, Sugar quietly went about evening it up.

May1008_0020ew

A snip here....a snip there.

May1008_0021ew

And TaDa! All he needs are some black rimmed glasses, and we'd have Drew Care-Egg!

May1008_0022ew

Heed my warning.....be very wary of asking Sugar Bear to take "alittle off the top!"

May1008_0023ew

The only question is.....where's Ernie? He was just here a minute ago! Huh? That's strange.

"Oh Ernie! come out come out where ever you are!"

Camera Critter~ To Be....or not Toby

July1808_0131ew

Okay....so the title is ridiculous...but heck...it's late and I'm tired.

July1808_0189ew

I do have some fun photos of our family cat Toby (or "Tobias Newton" when I'm mad at him). The month of August brought him to 8 years of life. He has been our little buddy for so long, I really don't remember life without him.

Back in 2000, my grandmother's cat gave birth to the sweetest litter of kittens EVER, and I was lucky enough to bring two home. Toby and his brother Tucker. Aren't kittens such a delight? I highly recommend having more than one kitten at a time. It is a blast to watch them interact. These brothers were tight.

July1808_0193ew

Unfortunately, I had to find Tucker a new home about 2 years ago. I did not have the time or energy to give him the attention he demanded. He started acting out....and I just couldn't handle it anymore. It was horribly difficult for me, but it had to be done.

Anyhow....Toby is still here, and Sugar loves him....
sometimes a little too much, but he is ever so patient with her. I am relieved for that. We love our little Toby boy, and look forward to many more years of snuggles.

Photo Hunters~ Colorful

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

While browsing through un-edited photos taken LAST summer, I ran across these fabulously COLORFUL photos. One of Sugar Bear's favorite pastimes is painting. Her Daddy made her this easel, and she takes her painting very seriously. I love to watch her carefully choose the COLOR of paint, and proceed to create her artwork. What a joy!

Photostory Friday~ The Wait Might Be Over

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

For the past 25+ years, my parents have had chickens. Well....hens actually. At any one time, there are usually 10-14 hens living on their farm. It is a wonderful source of farm fresh eggs. I have grown VERY accustom to the quality and QUANTITY of the eggs they provide. My dad doesn't eat eggs, and my mom mostly uses them when baking, so there is simply NO way they can go through the nearly dozen eggs a day that are laid on their farm. My brother and I have picked up the slack. We are thrilled to take home many many many eggs each time we visit.

When Sugar Bear came along, she quickly fell in love with these creatures.
She is a true chicken chaser, and loves to help gather the eggs. She is a cute little helper like that. While browsing through some old unedited photos, I stumbled upon this sweet photo of Sugar Bear carrying some eggs back to the house last summer. Sigh...look at how much she has changed this year. Where is my baby girl???? Look at those cheeks! YUM!

Last December, some sort of animal discovered the hens, and mysteriously managed to killed each and every one of them within a period of 5 days. It was a sad, sad thing. Sugar was so disappointed when we next went to the farm and the chickens were gone. I explained to her that a very hungry animal had ate them, and that just happens sometimes. We discussed further that in the spring, grandma would buy some baby chicks, and they would grow into big chickens, and start laying eggs. It was a LONG wait. We had NO eggs. I actually had to buy eggs...and have you seen the price of eggs???? eeekkkkk....mama no likey!

Spring came.....and grandma picked out 12 lovely chicks. Sugar loved them...a lot, and I do mean
A LOT!!!!! Unfortunately.....when the chicks were old enough to go into the big pen.....within days, something had managed to lift the sheet metal, and kill all but one. This was a hard thing to tell the Sugar, but she rallied and just told Papa that he needed to build a better pen. Luckily, my parents were able to find a very late hatching of chicks, and got 12 more. Meanwhile....NO EGGS. sigh...For father's day, I gave my dad a large live trap. He has since captured two raccoons, and gave them new homes FAR away. We are hoping this solves the problem.

The other day, while visiting the farm, Papa surprised Sugar with the very first egg. Wish I had my camera there to document the occasion, but I didn't. I'll just look at this old photo, and imagine a huge smile on her face. I have to admit....I'm a bit giddy myself. Soon, I'll be rolling in some eggs. YAHOO!!!!
