My Week 98

myweekdiptych97web

August 6th my little honey wasn't up to her best. She had a summer cold. I helped her find a quiet project to do while I spent the afternoon sewing. Here she is making a friendship bracelet. She is using a contraption she got for Christmas made especially to hold the threads while she makes the knots.

I have been at my sewing machine in months and months and months, but today was the day to "get'er done!"

In one afternoon, I:

-Mended one dress, two pairs of jeans, two shirts, and a pair of pajama bottoms.

I then:

-made THREE hooded towels

-refashioned a shirt into a tunic

-refashioned a shirt into a shrug

and

- made two pairs of the cutest underwear I have ever seen out of old t-shirts.

Yes...my kid is the one wearing homemade underwear. tee hee

August 7th I just couldn't let the day pass without taking a photo of the underwear I made.  Aren't they adorable?  Other than that....I have no idea what I did this day.  NO IDEA.

August 8th we headed into town for some errands, and then spent part of the afternoon at the park with friends.  I had a great time chatting with the adults, and Sugar Bear enjoyed her time with some kiddos.  After the others left, we walked around the park, and she picked a "lamb's ear" leaf, and spend the rest of the day rubbing it on her face.  :)

August 9th was a daycare/work day for us girls.  After a long day, we dropped by our shop and picked up The Hubby to head home.  Every time I drive by the boat ramp by the slough, I see these flowers in the evening light.  I usually don't take the time to stop, but that night I did.  I loved trying to get the perfect angle to get the bokeh circles from the glimmering water of the slough, and the sun coming through the petals of the flowers, and the cool "Shadow effect" the WIDE OPEN setting of my lens created.  I love it when it all comes together.

August 10th we took a walk today as a family. It has been AGES and AGES since we have done that. We all do it....pretty often, just sort of in mixed groups. This time we were all together. Even stuffed kitty came along. :)

I got several good shots, but I was drawn to this one. My husband isn't fond of me taking photos of him. Actually....he rarely allows it, so this one is pretty special.

August 11th we attended a family reunion at the river on Saturday. It was so beautiful down by the water, and I caught my girl just standing back and taking in all the wonder around us. We can't let these sorts of things go unnoticed.

August 12th Today was such a fantastic day. It was family picnic day for my 20th High School reunion. I so enjoyed hanging out with old friends and getting all caught up. I didn't really take any pictures of the event. I was more about the chit chatting.  Believe it or not....we had a pretty good turn out.  This is half of our entire class.  :)  Gotta love small towns.

We are used to 50-70 degree weather, and it was 96 today, so it was hot hot HOT for us. When we got back to my parent's house following the reunion, I let my little Sugar play in the sprinkler to get cooled off. She is such a goof ball, and wanted to put her goggles on.

My little Valentine

We had a lovely Valentine's Day, but I didn't get a decent photo of the day. ugh....I only had time enough to snap a quick shot of Sugar's hair outside her school.

Feb1412_0003ew

And a couple quick shots of her in the hall outside her class. I made her this long top for Valentine's day based off of this tutorial.

Feb1412_0012ew

I'm not entirely thrilled with how it turned out, but I just needed some practice. It only cost me about $2, so no worries. Sugar Bear likes it, so that is really all that matters.

Feb1412_0013ew

I do like that I used colors that are don't scream, "VALENTINE'S DAY!" so that she can continue to wear it year round.

Feb1412_0017ew

They didn't have a party at school, and Sugar had dance until late, so this really was the extent of our Valentine photo opportunity. I had hoped for more....but sometimes things just aren't as easy as one would think.

All Tangled Up

Okay, folks! I busted out all my little tricks on this one! I am not afraid to admit that I am pretty darn proud of myself, too. The past month I've been working really, really, REALLY hard on a Rapunzel costume for my little Sugar. You might know that the movie, "Tangled" is quite possibly our most FAVORITE.MOVIE.EVER!!!!!! I've been a bit obsessed with it since I saw it in the theatre. What's not to love about it? After spending hours sewing and sewing...and seam ripping....an sewing again, I spent even more time cutting and cutting, and cutting......then braiding and re braiding yarn. I have to admit, it was pretty awesome to finally see it all together.

Sorry for the overload. I just couldn't narrow it down too much.

BUT......my poor girl....she wasn't loving it by the time we were done. In fact....she had a sore throat, and if you look at some of the close ups of her....there isn't much light in her eyes. I can always tell when she doesn't feel good. It shows in her eyes.

Now we are just so very excited for Halloween to get here, so she can show her friends her costume. She is pretty in love with it. Can't say I blame her. Sort of makes me wish I made one for me too.....sort of! :)

A Lunch-y sort of DRESS!

Goodness knows I LOVE TO SEW! and boy howdy, do I love to sew for my girl. She inspires me so much. How can I not want to drape this beauty in pretty colors every single day?

May0811_0052ew

It's a darn good thing I've got connections! :) Jessica, from Happy Together, did it again. She lured me into this really FABULOUS thing called, TEST SEWING! There really isn't a better gig out there. Jessica does all sort of crazy planning, designing, making, and making again, then she just asks me if I want to test sew one of her patterns.....all non-challant and everything, and I loudly scream, YES! And this is born....

May0811_0009ew

The Out for Lunch Dress is Adorable with a capital AWEEEEEEEEEEEE! (that a high pitched squeal.)

May0811_0020ew

I just grabbed some fabric from my stash.....yes, my stash is embarrassingly large....and I thre this together. The pattern is so easy and fun. I may have been seen with a goofy grin plastered to my face for an entire week after making this dress. Then it was back for a week after I took the pictures of Miss Sugar Bear in it. :) :) :)

May0811_0061ew

We love it! ♥ and it's comfy, too.

May0811_0015ew
Girly......fun.........sassy........well, perfect, really.

May0811_0025ew

Yes, I'm tooting my own horn here. I did good, don't you think? Okay...So Jessica is the genius, but I rocked this sewing job, yes? (girls got a right to feel a little proud now and again.)

May0811_0032ew

I made a fun hair pretty to match. It was the first time I've made this particular fabric flower. I only burned my finger TWICE with the hot glue. I'm awesome like that. :)

May0811_0034ew

Love the buttons. ♥
May0811_0048ew

But honestly......this dress could be made out of a burlap sack, and some mud, and this girl would make it shine. ♥

May0811_0038ew

If you'd like to win a copy of this fun pattern, please head on over to Jessica's blog to enter to win one. :) How fun is that?

Thanks, Jessica! You rock the lunch-y dress party!
