It's Dog Gone Good

I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love. For me they are the role model for being alive. ~Gilda Radner

Sugar Bear has always enjoyed our Black Labrador, Daisy, but in the past 6 months, I'd say their relationship has become it's own. There is much affection shared between the two of them. They have a true connection now, and a fierce loyalty. It is now that I realize how vulnerable this leaves my darling Sugar Bear.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too. ~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

Dogs laugh, but they laugh with their tails. ~Max Eastman, Enjoyment of Laughter

I am now so very aware of the loss she will feel if something were to happen to her Daisy dog. Lucky for us, Daisy is only turning 4 this coming May, so hopefully (with fingers crossed) we won't have to face the sadness of her passing for quite some time now. I know you might be reading this and wondering why I am focusing on something so very awful, but friends......it is getting serious between these two girls.

Look at this love....this affection....this devotion.

My goal in life is to be as good of a person my dog already thinks I am. ~Author Unknown

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue. ~Author Unknown

I'm not afraid to admit that we have learned a lot about being a good person from our dog. She is always happy to see us, even if we left her at home to go to the beach. She doesn't hold a grudge, and accepts our attention when it is offered. She meets us where we are at, and doesn't expect us to be with her....she is just content being with US.

If we are in the bathtub, she won't expect to be invited to join, she just lays down beside it, and waits for us to finish.

When we are playing a board game, she doesn't expect to play as well.....she just finds a spot right near us, and watches with interest.

While we lie in bed, snuggling, and reading our evening stories, she doesn't barge in between us....she just lays quietly by the bed and listens along, and as I creep from the warm bed, leaving Sugar in her slumber, Daisy sometimes chooses to stay, and sometimes chooses to go, but always seem SURE in her decision.

There is ease in her love.....and trust....and faith. She doesn't waver. It is a love that Sugar Bear is starting to really treasure, and is recently showing signs of reciprocation. It is beautiful. The other night, it dawned on The Hubby and I that while Daisy will always be OUR dog, she is quickly becoming HER dog. It scares me a little seeing Sugar's heart out there in the open like that.

And then I have to remember that sometimes love HURTS. Yes......it does.

and THAT'S okay...Cause if we don't risk getting hurt, we will never fully live.

P.S. That last photo cracks me right up. I mean seriously......that is some pretty crazy loving going on there, now isn't it? Gotta love it! ♥

P.P.S. I'd love to hear about your experience with your children, and their love for their pets. It is such an amazing thing to witness this fierce loyalty.

Sugar Bear, You Are........

Feb2010_0193ew
-my five year old little sweetheart.

-incredibly funny. Your sense of humor keeps me smiling each and every single day.

-obsessed with practicing cart wheels and somersaults.

-in love with "The Jungle Book II". It might very well be your most favorite movie EVER.

Feb2010_0189ew
-an outdoors sort of girl. You aren't afraid to get dirty, or hold a creature that we come upon.

-a lover of all animals. I love to watch your joy in feeding the bunnies, and the lizard. You take such good care of your pets, and recently took on full responsibility of feeding our dog and cat.

-growing like a weed. Every time I turn around your pants are an inch too short. Good thing I know how to make them into capris.

-rarely sick, and for that I am ever so grateful. We do not take our health for granted.

Feb2010_0186ew
-apprehensive around new people, and continue to hold anxiety in certain situations.

-addicted to addition and subtraction.

-friends with everyone at daycare/preschool. It doesn't matter if they are 2 years or 9 years of age.....they all love Sugar Bear. Who can blame them?

-so very interested in the cycle of life, and the food chain. You are fascinated with the lizard eating the crickets, and the snake eating the mouse. You are matter of fact about it, but show proper compassion.

Feb2010_0184ew
-reading so much these days. You even got to read to your friends at circle time.

-a mama's girl. We are like two peas in a pod. If it were up to you, we'd spend every single minute together.

-a very choosy eater, and I blame myself. Our lifestyle, and my own picky ways have limited your food experiences, and you are timid of new things.

-a lover of music. Your favorite singer is Laurie Berkner, and we both enjoy singing along to her CD's each day in our truck.

Feb2010_0183ew
-very excited for Kindergarten next fall. I'm not sure I'm ready to have you at the big school, and riding the bus, but I'm glad two of your preschool friends will be with you.

-still VERY into puzzles of all kinds. You are currently a pro at 100 piece puzzles, and working on 300.

-not very interested in toys. You have toys, but rarely play with them. You are more likely to just hang out with me, and do what I do. We play lots of board games. You are not the most graceful loser, but we are working on it. You often try to change the rules so that it appears that YOU won, instead of me.

-my bedtime snuggler. I can simply not resist a good long snuggle with you in bed each night after story time. It takes us back to our shared bed days. ♥

-Still my baby girl! ♥ You are the best person I know, and I love you with all my heart.

i ♥ faces~ jump for joy

Okay, so I realize that this might not follow the rules this week, since there isn't a face clearly visable, but when I think of jumping for joy, I think of this picture alone. This is the only photo I feel like sharing, so I'm showing it. My regular readers have already seen it last summer, but that's okay.......it brings me JOY just looking at it, so I hope it has the same effect on many of you.

Head on over to i ♥ faces this week to see lots and lots of jumpin' for joy. You won't be sorry.
