Camera Critters~Playing Opossum

Camera Critters

June0908_0012ew

Hubby got curious what sort of creatures were lurking in our back yard recently, so he borrowed a live trap. This adventurous little fellow had the misfortune to amble on in. I guess the tuna fish was irresistible.

June0908_0013ew

Hubby was eager to show Sugar and I where the saying, "playing Opossum" came from.

June0908_0016ew

I assure you...despite what it looks like, no animals were harmed in the making of this post. All hubby did as nudge the poor little fellow and he fell to the ground and did this....

June0908_0018ew

And he stayed that way for 5 minutes.
June0908_0019ew

He was good...you couldn't even see him breathe.

June0908_0024ew

We backed off, and soon he took a little peek....

June0908_0026ew

Then a bigger look...

June0908_0027ew

...and he was up and running off back into the woods. I'm telling you....I haven't seen such good acting in all my life.

Happy Sunday Everyone!

What fun! A great variety of pictures, sort of like one of those old-fashioned movies where you flick the picks and the opossum moves. He's a cutie.

Possums DO play possum. Doesn't seem to me a very satisfactory means of protections, but...whatever works for them.

I love that last one, he's so cute! I have never understood why people say opposum's are ugly animals, I've always found them quite cute myself.

PS- I stole your idea of putting my camera equipment on my blog! Sorry!

He's a pretty convincing little fellow! And so ungly he's cute. I remember once when by brother went out to feed the cats, and found an opossum. He screamed like the devil was chasing him. You guys sure do have lots of wildlife around!

I love how you told the story through the photos as well - really interesting to see an opossum up and close like that! Thank you for sharing! :)

I always look forward to visiting your blog Cory. You tell great stories, and you already know I think your photos are outstanding (Plus, it helps that you have Miss Irresistible Adorable Sugar Bear!).

Being born out of his time and more like Davey Crockett, my dad has raised many various animals. When he was young and was raising some baby possums, my grandma used to tell him that she didn't know why God decided to make such an ugly critter hehehe ;-) You sure made him look adorable here with your story though!

CMB said...

FOr an ugly little thing, he sure is kind of cute!

I never saw a possum before. Very cute, but a little freaky. How do they learn to do that? I have this image in my head of their mum lining them up so they can practise.

Awesome pictures!!! I emailed the link to my dh, and he replied "Very cool, def worth forwarding!"

And I love seeing one alive, we have recently started seeing oppossoms here, but they are ALWAYS dead along side the road, very sad!!

Oh that is so cool! Hay, long time ...I loved this post. How are you girl? Doing well I trust.I have started raising a few chickens for eggs. The kids are so glad for the thrill of the life. They even change the water without being asked. Life is good. I love the image with all the stickers. She is growing up. I look forward to the toothless grin in a year or three. Dash lost his front tooth and wow what a change in him image.
