Photostory Friday~ I'm Sure the Squirrel was Surprised As Well

Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

The other day, when picking Sugar Bear up from daycare/preschool, I noticed a pretty interestingly amused look on her provider's face.  Sugar happily skipped up to me holding out her papers she had done that day.  I quickly kneel down to her level.  This is always one of my favorite times of day.  She is always so eager to show me what she has created.  I thoroughly enjoy listening to her describe her work.  Usually, her teacher tends to go about her duties while Sugar and I look over her papers, but this time she was hoovering over us with the strangest look on her face.  Soon enough...I knew why.  The following coloring book page finally made it to the top of the pile.  As I gazed over it, Sugar began to tell me the story of her work.

In an urgent, intense sort of loud whisper, Sugar Bear said, "Mama, this poor little squirrel was SOOOOOO scared.  All these needles were falling from the sky, and see this one...it hit him in the eye.  See the BLOOD?  And the tears?  He is hurt and crying!"

Wide eyed I said, "Oh my! THAT does sound scary.  Poor Little Squirrel. Do you think he will be okay?"  and Sugar replied as she laid her hand on my arm, "Oh yes, he ran to safety! Don't worry Mom."  Then she happily skipped away.

I look up into the eyes of her teacher, as she held back a giggle, and softly whispered, "I have no idea where she got that.  Seriously....she came up with it all by herself."  We shared a little smile, and shrugged our shoulders.

The next day....she colored a beautiful grey and white bunny with pink ears, and nose.  It was darling, but a lot less entertaining.  Guess which one is hanging on my fridge?

Have a great Friday!

Aren't little people so precious? I often wish I knew what went on in their little minds! Glad the latest picture was a happy one! Happy Friday!

Kids think and say the neatest things. I wonder what made her think of it but it is great to see that she reacts so well and cares so much for the little hurt squirrel.

This is one of those pieces of artwork that you will probably keep forever.

And Sugar is right...those raindrops do look like needles! Poor squirrel!

Aren't kids great? My 3 yo neice was riding with her mom and kept saying, "Cat in the hat, cat in the hat, cat in the hat...." She did this numerous times and my sis always noticed that was at the same location. She asked her what she was talking about. It was those orange and white large construction pylons that do look like his hat! lol I love their fresh perspectives. Oh! If the world was more like them!

NEVER throw that picture away, because that story is one to tell for years to come!

Thanks for your comment :) I definitely feel like letting her lead the way is the right thing to do. It helps to hear others agree that my instinct is sound. She started sounding letters again tonight at storytime on her own. We may be on to a trend!

Miss Peach is HUGELY into coloring as well. None quite as treacherous as Mr. Squirrel. They are funny little things aren't they?

Gosh I hate it when it rains needles! Thank goodness it was a happy ending.
Poor little squirrel. Maybe if we created a holiday to celebrate it - it would have a much nicer fate like the little bunny that seems to be popular this time of year.

I absolutely love that you have a picture of bloody squirrel on your fridge.

I did, for years, before I replaced it with a picture of a bloody platypus. Under a rainbow.

Oh, the tales our two little tykes could craft together -- LOL! :D

In Sugar's defense, those raindrops DO look suspiciously like needles...

I love the way her mind works!
