What Planet Have I Been On?

Do you ever have a moment that just smacks you right up side the head, and makes you wonder where on earth has your brain been? This happens to me pretty often. I am either residing on a totally different planet than most humans, or I have just had my head where the sun doesn't shine for far too long. It certainly isn't very lady like to put it that way, but seriously....how could I have missed....... THIS
????????

I absolutely can not tell you when I exactly saw The Princess Bride
for the first time, but I do know it was in the 80's, so it must have been shortly after it came out on video. Since that moment, it has been beyond a shadow of a doubt one of my top 10 movies of all time. I could watch it every day and simply never tire of it. Movies just hardly get any better than that.

I am not a huge movie person. I like movies just as much as the next gal, but I am just not one of THOSE people that study movies....or what do they call it??? Oh yeah, FILM. I don't get all obsessed and read about the movies, and nor do I pay huge attention to the actors in such films. I just watch it. Like it.....love it...or hate it, but I don't really call it a hobby. You might be wondering where the heck I am going with all this crazy rambling, well so am I. Just kidding, I think I know what I am trying to say....I think.

You see, I have seen The Princess Bride more times than I could possibly count, yet I have done ZERO reading about the film. Does that make me less of a FAN of this movie than those that can tell you EVERYTHING you could possibly want and NOT want to know about this movie? Does the fact that up until last week, I couldn't tell you who the director of The Princess Bride was, mean that I don't LURVE this movie? I don't think so, but it certainly makes me wonder........how I could have missed.....THIS

Okay...so many of you may still be wondering what the heckola I am even talking about. That's okay...I honestly think this post is stinking up the joint as well, but I am just in shock, and wanted to share my idiocy with my fellow readers who also heart "The Princess Bride!"

Here's the dealio....I am also a big fan of the TV show, Criminal Minds
. I not only love it....I totally LURVE it. I have always been a little bit overly interested in serial Killers. I know...I know....I often wonder what that says about me as well...it's okay....you can think it. I don't mind. I have read several books about Ted Bundy, and have seen most the movies. EEEEWWWWWWW that guy had issues. I don't know why, but people like him interest me. Now, he doesn't interest me in a "come on over for dinner, so I can pick your brain" sort of way. It is more like a "let me learn about you from a HUGE distance" sort of way. The show Criminal Minds immediately struck my fancy. I enjoy looking at how the criminal mind might work.

Once again...I am not the sort of TV fan to do research into the actual SHOW. I just watch it...I don't worry about who is in it, or who the writers are. I just watch it. Unfortunately, since I live on some far off planet I had heard nothing of the main character leaving the show. You see....no matter how much I love a show....I often miss it. This fall, since my darling hubby has been home soooooooo much, I have pretty much given up on most of the shows I watch. We don't share the same interests. Now he watches what he wants to watch...and I blog. It's all good.

Anyhow......(sorry, only I can make a three billion word post about something that probably interests no one), the other night, I was reading a recent issue of People Magazine, and was delighted to see an article about my beloved movie, "The Princess Bride" turning 20. As I read, I flipped the page to see photos of all the characters, and some recent photos of the actors right along side them. I am not kidding when I say that I let out a rather loud, "YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!" Seriously people, how on earth did I not realize that the main character of one of my favorite TV shows played one of my all time favorite characters in one of my all time favorite movies?????? What is wrong with me? Am I the only idiot who didn't know this? Am I the only person on this planet that couldn't see it?

I mean...it gets worse. My dear Sugar Bear is a huge fan of the movie, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. We own it...I have seen it at least 100 times. Our beloved, Mandy Patinkin
, plays the villain, Huxley in this movie. I am proud to say that I am not a total dork, and did figure out that he was the same actor as in Criminal Minds. I am, however, ashamed to admit that even after a billion viewings of this Elmo movie, I had not recognized him as the fabulous Inigo Montoya. Am I the only one? How did I miss it?

Okay, so maybe none of this matters, but it sure has me wondering if I have a fully functioning brain. One of my all time favorite movies.....one of my all time favorite TV shows....and one of my daughter's all time favorite movies.....all of which I have viewed over.....and over....and over....yet I never made the connection. sigh.....WAKE UP COREY! WAKE THE HECK UP! I better go work on my Suduko puzzles...the old brain is failing folks....failing.

Oh . . . my . . . word! I never knew it either! (until I read your post, that is) I can't believe that's the same guy! So cool! Thanks for teaching me something new today, Corey. And no, you're not the only one who didn't know that! :)

I love him too. As I recall, although admittedly it was more years ago than I care to count at this moment the last time I saw it, he was also quite amazing in Dick Tracy with Madonna and Warren Beatty. He even sings in it, which is my favorite thing to see/hear him do. His version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow always makes me get all teary-eyed. Sniffle.

Hey, Corey! I have something for you at my blog!

The Princess Bride is my sister's all time favorite movie. I've never seen it. I actually came by from The land of Princesses and Monkeys to commend you on your extremely articulate response to her spanking post. I was impressed by how well you articulated your thoughts. It's hard (at least for me) to address such an emotional topic without jumbling all my reasoning and rambling on. (Kind of like now) Anyways, well said. :)

In my humble opinion The Princess Bride is just about a perfect movie. There is literally something in it for everyone. And it never gets old.

Ever.

LOL, I went through something similar several years ago when he was on Chicago Hope... :)

I love Criminal Minds and was so disappointed when he left!

Hee Hee! You crack me up : ) Don't feel bad - I think you didn't notice basically because he is an extremely talented character actor.

Many years ago, I had a similar reaction to discover that he was one of the main characters in the movie 'The Doctor'. All through the movie it was driving me crazy why I couldn't place where I knew him from. It wasn't until reading the credits that I realized who he was.

I was soooo bummed out that he left CM : (

Corey, I like the Serial Killer type stuff too, maybe because it is just so other. Weird??

And I love criminal minds.

But, I have not yet seen The Princess Bride. I will one day, I promise, but it just isn't so well known over here I suppose.

P.s. I clicked. You are doing sooo well. Yay. x

You crack me up. While I was lazing around on vacation last week I ran across The Princess Bride while clicking through the channels.. now the only reason I stopped and watched the end of it was because of you. LOL! You mentioned before that it was your favorite.. so I thought.. ok I'll give it another try. I had forgotten how funny it was! Oh and you must be on my planet because I don't notice the things either...

I have seen Princess Bride several times but it's been a while. I don't think I would have figured it out either.

I love People magazine! So much information! :)

I love that movie too and I never knew it either! So that makes me clueless as well (and a bit, well, SHOCKED)!

I loved this post! I am not familiar with the show you were referring too, though I do love Princess Bride. Anyway, I have had WAKE UP moments like that, which is why I relate to this post. One of note was when I realized that House is played by the same guy who plays the dad on Stuart Little. I was so shocked because the characters are so completely different. It is funny how we really think the actor has the character of the person he is playing...or at least I do! I hope that if I am ever in a movie (yeah, right!), I am cast to play someone nice!

That's so funny! I actually knew that he played in The Princess Bride and also another more recent series my husband used to watch called "Dead Like Me". I haven't seen Criminal Mids, but would have recognized him. BUT...I've also seen Elmo in Grouchland quite a few times and didn't realize he was Huxley!
