Cold and Blue....Strike Two!

Uninspired....bored.....a bit BLUE! That is me this week. It is truly a rare occasion that I find myself feeling glum, so when it happens, it is a bit disconcerting for me. I am usually one to find the rainbows in the rain, the flowers in the weeds, and the...the.....the....ummm I have sat here for 5 minutes and can't even come up with another example. Now if that doesn't say "gloom and doom" in the land of Living and Loving, I don't know what does.

As I stumble through the Blogosphere, I see tons of wonderful folks, energized by the New Year, and instead of feeling inspired, I find myself feeling a bit more empty. This is incredibly odd, being that nothing negative has happened recently to set this ball rolling. I had a great Christmas, and I have nothing to "really" to complain about, yet I am glum.

I feel bored with my photography. I do not mean that I have lost interest in taking photos. It is more that I look at my photos and find them ordinary, and well...boring these days. I could hardly find a set of photos I even felt like editing tonight. I look at them all....and feel disconnected, and uninspired. However, when I am actually in the moment (like today at a birthday party), I am feeling cheerful, and happy. It is when I slow down, and have the time to actually do something creative that I am finding myself so very BLAH.

I don't even want to talk about this here blog. It is as dull as it gets these days, and yet I can not find the motivation to be my best. I just seem to throw some photos up (which we already know bores me), and call it good. Blech! I have so many BIG and interesting things I could be writing about, but haven't felt moved to do it lately. Sigh....

Perhaps the world's second worst crime is boredom. The first is being a bore.

Great....strike TWO!

I feel the same way about my blog too, and my photography. I need something new to do. it's all just same old, same old.

Thanks for visiting and leaving a comment.
I am soooooooooooooo down at the is just another day...I'm too scared to blog too much - give too much away as tomorrow I may feel better and regret having been so open and honest...
I know it will be okay
but right now I can just lay down and let this day pass me by...

I'm the same way! It's too cold to venture out and try to take some nice photos! Just kind of "bleh," But you did get some nice frosty photos there!

Corey, I know this might not mean much but I am not a photographer so I would call myself a lay person in this area but I find that your photos are extraordinary and inspiring. In fact I am looking for a new camera. mine is just awful and when I was in the store shopping around I was taking really closeups of stupid objects and the girl in the store looked at me wierd and I told her that I have this "blogging friend" who takes closeups of random objects and turns them into art. Anyway I just wanted you to know how much I think of your photos. I hope you get inspired again. Or maybe it's just all that darn bad weather you all are having.

I'm feeling the same way. And, I don't really know why, either!

The pictures are gorgeous, Corey!

i think your work is beautiful, but understand what you are feeling quite well. i hope that 2009 brings you inspiration!

Happens to everyone, occasionally. It will pass :-)

If these are examples of your boredom, I hope you stay bored for a while... they are fabulous!

It must be in the air. For some reason this week has me feeling the same way. Only I'm really no fun to be around. I spent the day yesterday with the T.V. entertaining Bug as I painted. I wouldn't let him help me which is abnormal for me. I just wanted it done... sigh.

I have felt the same way with my photography. The new year is inspring me in other ways, but my photography has been put on the back burner. I haven't felt the 'itch' to pick up my camera as much as usual.

Hopefully the funk will pass for the both of us.

Corey, these photos are beautiful!!! You will come through it... more inspired than ever. Everyone goes through this at some point, mine wasn't too long ago. Then a moment will happen that changes it all!! At least your photos are gorgeous to the rest of us right now!
It's looking up, kid!

We all have those seasons for sure. The past couple of weeks have been that way for me. Part of the normal flow of life.

Love the icy photos. The crystals are beautiful.

I think this time of year gets everyone..the big let down after the holidays with not much to look forward. Give yourself a break and mope around for awhile...who says we have to be happy and cheerful all the time? Wallowing in self-pity does not have to be's just another process we go through making us who we are. In fact, I think I'll go wallow in some of my own self-pity! :) Chin up lady!

Well, first of all, you have a gift. And you don't have to justify it to anyone. And, just as others have gifts, you don't need to use yours to cheer you up. Let the rest of us try to put some sunshine in your life, for now. And what about StickerGal? She's looking pretty sunshiney to moi!

Here's hoping you feel more colors of the sunrise/sunset soon, and not so many rainy hues! And BTW, I've got a Giveaway goin' on at my place...please drop by and put some POP! in your New Year!

You know, last week I was feeling the same way about my blog design. I am coming out of it now, and I'm taking you with me:)

I think it's absolutely normal and I have felt this way numerous times, Corey. Hang in there!

Beth Cotell said...

Hang in there Corey. Sounds like you have the "Christmas is over and now it's just winter" blahs!

This to shall pass!

Come see me. I have something for you!

That seems to happen to me every so often as well. It's probably good for us. We need to experience doom and gloom every now and then so we will enjoy the happy times all the more!

I LOVE your photos- your daughter is gorgeous. I wish my daughter had a wonderful photographer mommy to take her picture all the time and make her look like she's in a magazine. Instead, she will one day look back through her formative years at blurry, discolored images of herself.

You are not the average photographer. I wouldn't say this if I didn't mean it. Not a lot of people have natural talent for photography. Like... I have to try to do what seems natural to you. I love your photography and look forward to another year of sharing. :)

Btw- January is a big let down month. Everything built up for the holidays and now the holidays are gone...

I totally feel ya Corey. I find taking a shot or two a day is therapeutic if I DON'T have to publish it to the internet (and more enjoyable). Odd, I know.

And I love your flakes.

I find all your ice crystal images a perfect match for your post. And boredom is a terrible feeling, and it just eats you up inside. Or at least I think so. As for boredom and blogs, I've often wondered about direction and blogs more than one time, including what on earth I'm really doing with mine.

The new year will bring something wonderful. Just wait and see. :)

I never fail to be inspired when I stop by your place, Corey! But I am feeling the same way with my own stuff lately. I need to find something new. Your frosty macros are beautiful!

Wow, love the pictures.

Aww.... I think it's normal to feel this way... it's that time of the year when the weather is looking so dull and dreary and grey so everything in life is looking that way as well...
I am sure everything will pick up and things will look so much better real quick.
This macro shots are stunning!

Megan@SortaCrunchy said...

well, these shots are pure art to me. so lovely.

hey friend, I want you to know I can relate. Having been there for a few months recently . . . I can very much empathize.

I will say this - nothing has been more healthy for me than to take some nice, long, meaningful blog breaks. I thought it would be death for my stats and numbers. My page views may have dropped, but every time I've taken a break, my subscriber numbers have grown.

it really helps clear my head and points me back towards motivation and fulfillment.

just some thoughts.

love you, mama. let me know if there is anything i can do.

you are being a bit hard on yourself. and by a bit, i of course mean: incredibly.

two things:
1) when everything is always fantastic, you grow accustomed to it and it is hard to see that nothing has changed, you just need a break from fantastic. (somehow that makes sense. somehow). it will come back to you. fear not.

2) i forget what two was. OH YES. it was that if this place were truly boring...people wouldn't come by. i notice at least 25 other people *did* come by. hmm...must not be boring. how about this. leave it to me. when you get boring, i will leave you a comment saying 'corey, sorry, honey, this was boring. could you please kindly kick it up a notch?' then you will do and everything will be fine. trust me. :)
